UKIP cock up Rotheram Police & Crime Commissioner Election

Why did UKIP lose? The same old reasons. Farage's cabal never learn. They are plain thick.

Poor organisation of the postal vote

Wrong choice of candidate, an ex-plod from the South Yorkshire force. That's right the bunch that tried to cover up their part in the Hillsborough disaster. People want an independent commissioner not one steeped in the local police that people are complaing about. It's the same with the IPCC, full of ex-coppers. Independent it is not!

Dr Billings is a vicar.

Result:

Labour's Alan Billings has been voted in as the new Police and Crime Commissioner for South Yorkshire.
Dr Billings took just over 50% of the vote in the poll held following the resignation of Shaun Wright amid the Rotherham child abuse scandal.
UKIP's Jack Clarkson finished second with 32% of the vote, the Conservatives were third and the English Democrats fourth.
The turnout was 14.88%, down from 14.93% in 2012.
Doncaster council chief executive, Jo Miller, said the turnout at the ballot box in the town was only 3.5%, with 11.7% postal votes.
Dr Billings said: "I'm very pleased. It's been very, very hard fought. Given the circumstances it's very gratifying that the Labour Party is able to re-establish itself in South Yorkshire as a credible force."
The Conservative candidate Ian Walker took nearly 13% of the vote, with David Allen of the English Democrats polling just under 6%.
The by-election was called after Mr Wright resigned on 16 September following weeks of pressure built up by a report into child abuse in Rotherham.
The Alexis Jay Report revealed that more than 1,400 children in the town had been sexually exploited by gangs of men.
Mr Wright had been the councillor who oversaw Rotherham's children's services between 2005 and 2010.

Labour's Scottish Nightmare see PS

The latest IpsosMori poll is shattering not only for Labour, down to 4 Scottish seats, but for all the Westminster parties. The Tories unsurprisingly will lose their one and only Scottish MP and the sordid LibDems all but one. They are expected to hang on to Jo Grimond's old seat of Orkney & Shetland!

Embedded image permalink

This is what the London political elite richly deserve. I am paricularly glad that the LibDems are to be virtually wiped out as they sabotaged using a sordid Westminster trick the Bill that would have given us an in/out EU referendum right now. They seem to think its business as usual and they can go on fiddling our democracy for their own advantage.

They have not learned from the cruel deception they perpretuated on student fees nor from their party self interest sabotage of patently democratic Westminster boundary changes to remove some of the most glaring inequalities in constituency size which hands Labour an unfair number of MPs for their share of the vote.

All that has been delivered is a huge number of knighthoods and peerages for some mediocre useless immoral LibDem politicians whom the country would be well rid off and an AV referendum nobody wanted. They sem to think that the electorate will forget all their expenses corruption but the Scottish Referendum has changed all that. Labour down to 4 Scottish seats would have been unbelievable pre referendum. I would love to be at Scottish Labour's gala dinner tonight with Milliband. I would go as Banquo Blair's ghost.

Even if the SNP numbers come back a bit to say 40 MPs if you add to that the Ulster and Welsh MPs  it would give a block of 55 non LibLabCon MPs. If UKIP manage to get 5 MPs then Cameron or Milliband will have to form a coalition.

But what of the LibDems in England? I doubt if there will be more than 15 of them post May 2015. It is a proven fact that any country with the word democratic in its name is a nasty dictatorship. Its the same with the LibDems with the dictator being the BBC/Guardian liberal elite.

At last thanks to Scotland I see hope for our country to become a real democracy run by the people for the people!

PS 31 Oct

A second poll by YouGov published late on 30 th Oct makes slightly better reading for Labour but is still disastrous

Times / YouGov Scotland gen elec poll
SNP: 43% (47 seats)
Labour: 27% (10 seats)
C: 15% (1 seat)
LD: 4% (1 seat)

The mesage is the same. We don't want the Westminster political elite in Scotland

Diane James must front up UKIP's General Election campaign.

Mrs James is now UKIP's biggest electoral asset. Many people like her and more important few dislike her. The LibDems made their big break through under Charlie Kennedyin 2005. Living so close to Paddy I know how the LibDem establishment disliked Charlie but the great British public, men and women liked him and in 2005 he got more seats than Cleggy without the TV leaders debate exposure Cleggy was given in the TV leaders debate.

The UKIP faithful most of whom have never met or tried to work with him, may love Farage but the public like Mrs James. Its the same mistake Labour are making. With Alan Johnston as leader Cameron and Clegg are toast. People like Alan Johnston. Milliband is just plain unlikeable and this will be people's perception of Farage at the end of the election campaign. He is not an attractive person to women and will increasingly be perceived as rentaqote man with a glib answer to everything but answers that falls apart under pressure.

Farage's favourite trick of disowning other UKIP spokesmen is even now starting to wear a bit thin with the public. It also must be annoying the hell out of O'Flynn and Mrs James. Farage is past his sell by date. His past statements are catching up on him and the more he talks on camera the worse this problem will get for UKIP. But who is going to tell him to shut up?

If it were the Tory party the men in grey suits would right now be tapping Nigel on the shoulder and talking about the greater good of the party trumping his personal ambitions. That is the trouble with leader personality cults. Nobody dare say the emperor now has no clothes.

Who will be the first UKIP MEP to fall out with Farage

Farage has a long track record of losing MEPs rather quickly as he rounds up the EU Euros and corals them in the IOM . The current crop of UKIP MEPs are  to say the least undistinguished however in the interests of livening things up I will give odds on when the first excommunication will be ordered by Pope Farage the infallible.

Those who have gone before like Nikki have often cited Nigel's nasty mid- European neo fascist friends that he has in Brussels. Bannerman developed a middle aged crush and undying admiration for Dave and Marta found the laissez fair UKIP finances difficult to stomach and also joined the Tories..

I find this difficult as I know less than half the new intake who seem to be ex-Tories who have jumped on the bandwagon ,sorry joined the party in the last two years or so.

There are very few who could perhaps find a berth in another party on their own merits:

O'Flynn, Diane James and possibly Aker and Woolfe

Then there is the old guard who would never get preferment in any other party

The rest are Johnny come lately morally flexible ex-Tories and fit the description easy come easy go and only have the leader's fickle favour to recommend them.

After the General election May 2015 reality will dawn when UKIP win only a handful of MPs. In disappointment blame will be delegated to those judged disloyal by the Fuerher. I would rate this an even money chance by end 2015. If Farage is then in Westminster and has to resign as an MEP then the Brussels mice will play. In that scenario with Farage struggling to make a mark in Westminster there would eventually be many Bannerman like MEP defections back to the Tories to secure their 2019 place on the gravy train as Bannerman secured his this year and Andreasen just missed. I would expect an increasing number of UKIP MEP defections as June 2019 approaches. How many? Around 15 in total seems a good central estimate with a range 10 to 20.

UKIP's weakness & the EU's strength

Currently UKIP is on a roll with Farage claiming they are taking votes from Labour as much as the Tories. That claim will fall apart in the 2015 General Election as the backgrounds of UKIP's candidates are examined. Looking at their current crop of MEPs it looks like the Tory third reserve team with people like Helmer, Etheridge, Legge etc  ie those who failed to get nominated for  a safe seat. They may apppeal to Tory dissidents but there is no way Labour voters will vote for old or young Tories. Even their women are old Tories, Diane James and more obviously Suzanne Evans. Nice ladies but they are no Charlotte Leslies.

Can anyone name a current UKIP MEP or NEC member who was previously a member of the Labour party?

Alex Salmond's SNP came so close to winning in the Scottish referendum by presenting themselves as more socialist than Labour. UKIP have to recognise this and present themselves in this light in Labour held seats and have former Labour members as candidates. That is the way to win. Its the tactic the LibDems used to get up to the 55 to 60 seat mark. Will Farage do it? Of course not he is the biggest failed Tory of the lot. Does he want a group of socialist inclined MPs? Certainly not and neither do the UKIP members and ex-members like the Major. They prefer old Etonians and Eton mess.

The EU's strength is they know the system, play it and run it. France has more than twice as many EU officials as the UK. It helps if you are making the rules and interpreting them but UK officialdom compounds this by gold plating the regulations. Nick Watt pointed this out today on the Sunday Politics opining that this was the probable cause of the £1.7 bn tax demand. I did not know prostitutes were diligent at submitting tax returns. Possibly Latvian pole dancers are more diligent in this area.

EU supports UKIP!

Four days ago I opined that Barroso was UKIP's biggest electoral asset. Little did I think this would be confirmed within 4 days with the announcement of the EUs demand for £1.7 billon extra, roughly £57 per head of the UK population to be paid by 1st Dec. Farage certainly fulfils Napoleon's main criteria for success, he is lucky!

The Tories are clearly toast in the coming Rochester by-election and Cameron must be sick as a parrot about the way the 'colleagues' have kippered him.

Farage was grinning like a Cheshire Cat on the Daily Politics saying Dave would have to pay up and clearly annoying the hell out of Dave's token Asian. Toryboy Pierce was weeping buckets for poor Dave.

The cause of this mess was the usual, a failure to read and understand the relevant treaty clauses by the Rolls Royce minds of the FCO and HMT and ministers who could not be bothered to ask the awkward questions. I well remember having to lecture such minds of the importance of reading bond covenants in detail.

Stil Farage is not in the clear, rather he is still in the mire over his new Polish friend. I quote from the Sun,s weekly Heroes and Villains piece..

"For a man who preaches about putting principle above cynical Westminster policking, it's been a poor week for Nigel Farage. Ukip’s charismatic boss 'fessed up to doing a squalid little deal to join forces with a far right Polish MEP just to get his paws on £1.5m of taxpayers' funding.
Some perspective: Robert Iwaszkiewicz’s party too pro-Nazi even for France's National Front, who refused a similar link up. Farage made it worse by then laughing off as “a joke” ugly comments by the Pole on how wife beating can have its benefits.
The week’s second disaster was a bad miscalculation to allow ex-Radio 1 DJ Mike Read to sing about immigration in a Caribbean accent. Whether it was racist or not, and it probably wasn’t intended to be, it smelled bad and upset folk – and ended in the PR shambles of mortified Read withdrawing the song, and the poe-faced British Red Cross even refusing to take the money it raised as a donation.
Raise your moral game Nige, if you want to be taken seriously."

Note how the Sun calls Farage UKIP's boss not leader!

Farage agrees with me!

I blogged on 10th October how UKIP should have won Heywood & Middleton,

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=6112651969466158066#editor/target=post;postID=4139724468400044526;onPublishedMenu=allposts;onClosedMenu=allposts;postNum=7;src=postname

Now it is reported,

"UKIP are buoyant at the moment and are confident they can pull off a win which just a few days ago would have been considered highly unlikely. It is worth learning the lesson of another recent by-election: Labour’s win over UKIP in Heywood and Middleton by just 600 votes.
One senior UKIP source tells me they would have won the seat if the party had diverted resources from Clacton - which was in the bag - up north. However, I’m told UKIP HQ insisted on putting everything they had behind Douglas Carswell because “we owed him” for defecting. Understandable, yet notable nonetheless that privately the party is kicking itself for not doing everything it could in Heywood."

A senior UKIP source is code for Farage! You can read the original at

Farage's new EFD Polish recruit advocates wife beating

Farage has little appeal to women voters in the UK. To find he has just gone out and recruited a Polish MEP who advocates wife beating in some circumstances will do nothing to enhance his appeal to women voters of the UK. I quote from the euobserver the words of Mr Robert Iwaszkiewicz, Faragges new recruit from Poland’s far-right KNP party:

'Iwaszkiewicz himself, a 52-year old entrepreneur, was in May asked by Polish daily Gazeta Wroclawska whether it is acceptable for men to hit their wives. “I’m sure there’s quite a few wives around who would be brought back down to earth by such a reaction”, he replied.'

The KNP party was rejected by Marine LePen as a parliament partner because it was too extreme and racist!

Nuttall was on today's Daily Politics claiming Iwaskiewicz was joining the EFD group in a personal capacity. Hermann Kelly, an EFDD spokesman, said Iwaszkiewicz signed up last Thursday, before the Latvian quit, meaning the group never broke up in the first place. Two quite unbelievable statements.

It all goes to show how far Farage will go to trouser the EU geld plus enhance his front bench speaking rights which he also does in a personal capacity!

How he appears to British women voters obviously comes low down in Farage's list of priorities but its these women that can put UKIP MPs into Westminser and get us out of the EU! Says a lot about Farage for those who are objective enough to see it.

Barroso is UKIP's greatest electoral asset

Barroso is what my boyhood hero Biggles would have called a dago but it is Barroso that has been ruling the UK for the last 10 years. Poor old Biggles wil be rotating in his Sopwith Camel in the sky.

I remember when the Treaty of Rome was being negotiated. It was founded on free movement of capital and labour ie people changing country to work not to claim benefits for their children back home. Milton Friedman the great American economist and founder of monetarism pointed out frequently that a welfare state, ie the UK, could not co-exist with an open door immigration policy, ie the EU as we now have it. Did the political elite listen. Of course not, they are the elite and always know best and that is why we are now in the mess we are in having given up our veto on EU rules that damage our country.

The Rome Treaty was designed to prevent another European war between France & Germany with the hidden agenda of France runnng Europe and the Germans being subservient. Its now clear the French cannot run their own country let alone Europe and it is Germany that has had to step in and run the EU in its own right. Dangerous as Germany has got its Prussian military wing back.

We have got into this mess by our suppine political elite not resisting the EU salami slicing approach to taking over our country. The result is a military dwarf that  thinks it is a superpower. The EU cannot defend itself and has to rely on the hated Americans to stop Putin. Chairman Mao in his little Red book wrote that political power grows out of the barrel of a gun but the EU has no guns to stand up to the Red Army that defeated the Wehrmacht in 1943/44. Nevertheless idiots like Barroso and Juncker go on interfering in the Ukraine. The EU will be the cause of the next European conflict not its solution.

Barroso was on Marr yesterday laying down the EU law to us! Gold dust for Biggles Farage and there is no man bettter able to capitalise on this than Farage. Barroso and Juncker are forcing call me Dave into opposing the EU root and branch. Great! Cometh the hour cometh the man and that is starting to look more like Nigel Farage than David Cameron.

Vote Farage in Thannet!

UKIP's chances in Rochester & Strood

At times like these I turn to bookies odds. Opinion are just that and opinions fluctuate. Bookie's odds are based on hard cash and are therefore much more reliable. You can see these by clicking on

http://www.oddschecker.com/politics/british-politics/rochester-and-strood-by-election/winning-party

There you will see UKIP at around 4/1 on ie they have an 80% chance of winning. Also interesting is the popular bets being placed UKIP at 7/2 on with the Tories at 10/3 against.

There are factors which might change things. The Tories seem certain to choose a local woman to cash on the female anti-Farage vote and the Tories are going to put in a lot of people and money as the campaign develops, non-stop cabinet ministers so to speak.

I am sure the bookies will have factored this in but it will be well worthwhile keeping an eye on how the odds change in the run up to polling day.

PS Interesting to read UKIP's council loss in Thurock and early loss by 600 in Heywood & Middleton ascribed to poor organisation on the ground. UKIP suffers from too many chiefs like William Legge and not enough Indians. All Legge and his ilk want to do is make platform speeches. He is an Old Etonian after all! He should take a leaf out of Rees Mogg's book, another OE but he had the good sense to take his old nanny out canvassing with him to talk to the oiks on his behalf.

Farage's EP Euro group breaks up

I quote from today's EU Observer

http://euobserver.com/political/126106

The unusual attention for the obscure Latvian MEP, Iveta Grigule, was due to the fact that earlier that day, Grigule resigned from the eurosceptic Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy (EFDD) group, which led to the break-up of the faction.
Any EP group needs to have a minimum of 25 members from at least seven different countries. The EFDD, formed mostly of members of the UK Independence Party and Italy's Five Star Movement, had scraped together one MEP from the Czech Republic, France and Latvia, and two MEPs each from Lithuania and Sweden.
A meeting of political leaders chaired by EP president Martin Schulz on Thursday took note of the group breakup following Grigule's resignation.
In a press statement, EFDD claimed Grigule was "blackmailed" by the leaders of the two largest groups - the centre-right European People's Party and the Social-Democrats - in order to get the chairmanship of the EP-Kazakhstan delegation.
"Concerning her resignation, Ms Grigule told the secretary general of the EFDD group that 'I had to do it to get elected'," the EFDD statement reads"

This is seriously bad news for Farage, money and staff lost,
According to EP sources, the pro-Russia stance of Ukip leader Nigel Farage may have played a role in the Latvian's decision, whose party, the Latvian Farmers' Union, is in government coalition talks back home.
"In Latvia, there is no left or right, there are only pro-Russia and anti-Russia parties," an EP source quipped.
With the loss of his group, Farage, who recently said that migrants to the UK should be tested for HIV, will lose speaking time, a seat in political leaders' meetings and millions in funding money allocated to groups. In 2013, his group received €2.6 million.
But while many pro-EU politicians openly applaud the breakup of "Farage's group", they also worry that this will spur once again the French far right leader, Marine Le Pen, into having another go at forming a group of her own.
Back in the summer, Le Pen failed to gather MEPs from enough countries because Farage beat her to it.
So Farage loses his front row seat where he can grandstand and abuse the EU crats but it does show Farage's huge weakness of making statements on the hoof. The Latvians suffered terribly under the Russians from 1940 until the breakup of the Soviet Union. It was crass and so typical of Farage to make all these pro Russian statements which so upset his Latvian allies.
Does anyone still think this man has the political skills needed to get us an in/out EU referendum. He is no Alex Salmond. He is just a beer fueled, fag smoking rabble rouser that will never get women's votes. Time for man overboard on the SS UKIP.

Panorama on Farage - what a waste of money

I watched last nights pathetic BBC effort on how not to do investigative journalism. This programme has been over a year in the gestation and the BBC brought forth a pathetic reheat of old allegations. Why do we have to pay a licence fee for this drivel? Click below to watch this wate of money.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04lxvrd/panorama-the-farage-factor

It starts with a non-press conference/UKIP private meeting trying to keep undesirable hacks out. An event of no interest to anyone other than the scribblers. Then Richard North pointing out Farage's similar dagger technique to Brutus. Not quite correct. Brutus only stabbed one guy I can think of 20 or so Farage has knifed starting with former leader Knapman. They say politics is a dirty game but Farage has elevated political assassination to a whole art form in its own right.

Then onto the BBC's compulsory vox pop with one Alby Tebbutt on the streets of Romford portrayed as a racist although I heard nothing racist in what he said despite the BBC setting him up with a coloured lady who clearly had not listened to what Alby actually said. Nothing the smug arses at the BBC than mocking an ordinary decent man who happens to be a former Try. Contrast that with the much more sympathetic portrayal of former Labour voters Tony & Fay, a MS suffer whose care has of course been cut by the nasty coalition.

Then Farage criticising the nonexistent EU expense checking  Nigel likes an open goal. But what about Nigel's own little earner the Ashford call centre? Transparent? Clear as mud is a better decription. Note the associate of Nigel Farage who was involved in this operation is not named. I wonder why not? Watch that space.

Then Richard Sucherzewski stated when on UKIP's NEC in 2006 he was kept in the dark about the financial details of Ashford. (Note RS subsequently stood against NF for the leadership, suffered some nasty anonymous smears and left UKIP. He was not the last to suffer this sort of treatment.) Then back to Richard North saying the same thing and asking the same question, where did the Ashford money, £400k + go? The largest share went into the South East region, Farage's region, 2004 European campaign.

Then back to RS talking about the need for integrity and transparency. Switch to Brussels and again no transparency on where Farage's EU money, some 4 million Euros went. Then onto a bit of LibLabCon picador wok on Farage's poor voting record in Brussels on UK fishing quotas plus a vitriolic attack from Belgian arch euro federalist Verhofstadt giving NF a bit of his own medicine.
Then the BBC weighed in with claims of Farage promoting and UKIP taking money rom e-fag makers. Then back to the excluded journos  where UKIP eventually lost when it found it had no journos. Then on to Nigel's nasty mid European neo fascist friends who help him getting more EU dosh as a group leader.

The a bit of doorstepping by Dara in the corridors of Brussels where Farage says he never instructed UKP MEPs not to speak to Panorama saying that Darra had been talking to a lot of ex-UKIP dregs of rejects. Programme then points out that many, Andreasen was a great Farage protege but when she disagreed with NF he described her as impossible and trashing her. (When on the NEC I had pointed out to Farage this woman did ot fulfil UKIP and UK electoral candidate criteria but his oppo 'sausages' Gill waived the rules.) Andreasen is now a Tory.

Ditto with Bannerman also now a Tory who wrote UKIP's unreadable 2010 manifesto. (Bannerman showed me an excerpt of his magnum opus in 2009 and was very upset when I told him  it was reheated Tory drivel) Incidentally Bannerman is no relation whatsover to the Liberal PM of around 1900. I hope the Tories know this! Farage charmingly described Bannerman as a 'idiot'. Panorama claim to have found 25 sennior UKIPers who have left after disputes with Farage. I guess I must be one.Its nice to know I am not alone but unlike A & B I have not gone off to join the Tories I cannot think of any other exUKIP NEC members who have.

Then onto Farage's withdrawal of his agreement to give Panorama an interview. This is another standard Farage tactic. Agree to do something and then renege on his commitment.

The bit I liked best was Carswell saying its nice to have a leader with whom he agrees to which Farage replied, "Its early days yet". Many a true word is spoken in jest!

It finishes up with Carswell's victory at Clacton which I guess meant some of the earlier material had to be dropped. Duffy a long time Farage sycophant could be seen waddling along behind Carswell. Watch your back Douglas!

Ends up with Farage attacking the political class Spad culture like I suppose Carswell and Richard North pointing out the obvious truth, Farage is in it for Farage. I have always thought Farage was, like all profesional politicians, a con man. He is just better at than most of the others.

I leave you wit Private Eye's latest very funny front page

Carswell truly grasps the root of our malaise

This is the title of the excellent piece, link below, written by Liam Halligan in yesterday's Sunday Telegraph.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/comment/11156084/Douglas-Carswell-truly-grasps-the-root-of-our-malaise.html

I have a lot of time for Halligan as an economic commentator as he can communicate economic issues to ordinary people better than anyone since Alan Walters. The problem with academic economists is they make Milliband E  look normal and communicate in econspeak. a language only they understand.

He rightly describes Carswell as a man of great ability. I quote,

"Carswell, though, is amongst just a handful of credible politicians, who's refused to let his ambition outweigh his intellect"

"The trappings of power were there for the (his) taking, even maybe one of the great offices of state"

I look at my former BoE colleague Matthew Hancock now a Minister of State in the Business Dept. It shows how far a man of lesser abilities than Carswell can go by sucking up to the right people, in Hancock's case, Gideon Osborne.

Halligan finishes by saying,

"UKIP may yet be captured by vested interests. Nigel Farage and Carswell could come to blows."

Douglas Carswell won't be the first into the UKIP ring with Farage but as an elected MP he will start favourite. If he knocks Farage out it will be UKIP's gain. The able Patrick O'Flynn has already had the Wag tax argument with Farage and even the very acceptable Diane James has had her public differences with Farage exposed. Both are MEPs and in a strong position to take on Farage who's demand on the BBC Sunday Politics that if UKIP held the balance of power in a hung parliament post the May general election his price of support for the Tories would be an immedite In/Out referendum before the 1915 summer parliamentary  reccess. I understand the politics behind this, ie stopping further EU immigration, but it is administrative nonsense.

Farage likes to make up policy on the hoof but this cannot be allowed to continue. He has to go as leader if UKIP is to progress further.

How UKIP should have won Heywood & Middleton

It was a great performance by UKIP to lose by only 617 votes but they could have won if they had been more streetwise in their choice of candidate. I am not being wise after the event. Look at what I wrote on 22nd September,

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=6112651969466158066#editor/target=post;postID=5229320331120355049;onPublishedMenu=allposts;onClosedMenu=allposts;postNum=12;src=postname

Mr Bickley had been tried twice before and the media were asking questions about his background.

My main criticism of his choice relates to his being male. I wrote yesterday about Farage & UKIP's well known lack of appeal to women voters.

https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=6112651969466158066#editor/target=post;postID=4362713700386700497;onPublishedMenu=allposts;onClosedMenu=allposts;postNum=1;src=postname

It was blindingly obvious that to try and counteract this they should have chosen a local woman as candidate. Look how well they did in Eastleigh with Mrs James. This was made worse by Labour putting up a woman candidate.

A pity, a good result but it could have been the real game changer but Farage and his cabal of course had other things on their tiny minds.

Farage and the Wimmin & worse

I have always felt sad that Farage's personal spite against me and many others blinded him to our support for almost all UKIP policies etc. I have opined often in this blog that he has a problem securing women's votes. In yesterday's Telegraph Farage admits this. Click below to read it

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/nigel-farage/11147654/Nigel-Farage-Ukips-blokeish-image-has-put-off-women.html

"A survey by Lord Ashcroft showed Ukip would win the constituency ( Heywood & Middleton. ) on male votes alone, where it leads Labour 41 per cent to 38 per cent, but is being held back because just 21 per cent of women support the party."

"When you think of Nigel Farage, you think of a pint, you think of a bloke's bloke," Mr Nuttal said.
"We do have a problem with women, in terms of we are disproportionately supported by males."
It is made worse because women comprise more than half the electorate.
I have been saying and writing this for years. It is blindingly obvious but what have Farage and Nuttall done about it? Zilch! That is why I think UKIP can never be a potent force under Farage. Nuttall is even worse in this respect They need a new leader who can reach out to women.
UKIP will lose Heywood & Middleton to a UNITE female trade union official tonight as a result of this blokish image and on the wimmin's vote.
I have often been accused of being anti-Farage. It is not true. I am very pro UKIP but for many years I have recognised they are working with one hand tied behind their back with Farage as leader. Its votes in the ballot box that count not appearances on Question Time.
Worse Farage is a control freak and now seems to be endorsing Suzanne Evans, see my previous but one blog, as UKIP's next leader. Click to read
This was exactly what he did with the disastrous Pearson in 2010 a year UKIP could have gotten MPs elected on the back of an excellent performance in the Europeans but who would vote for a party with a leader who admitted he had not even read his party's manifesto? We have wasted 5 years as a result.
Look at what Alec Salmond said when he stood down as leader. "The next leader will be elected by the members at the SNP conference".  When asked if he would go to the House of Lords he laughed and quoted Burns, " Rocks will melt wi the sun before I go to that place".

Farage should try and learn from a politician who did deliver an independence referendum for his people!
It is not rocket science to map out a 2015 strategy for UKIP. I suggest something like,
Vote Labour get Brussels
Vote Tory get Brussels
Vote LibDem get Brussels
Simples as the meerkats say but just keep saying it.

Farage on a par with Milliband with the voters of Heywood Middleton

I give summary results of Ashcroft's latest poll in Heywood & Middleton below:

Which, if any, of the following reasons played a part in your decision  to vote for % and reason

ALL  Con voters Lab voters UKIP voters

They have the best policies on issues I care about   79            84               78          77
The party I’d like to win the next general election    70           81                80         57
The party that has the best candidate locally             46          43                53         36
The party that has the best leader nationally            43          73                39         41

(All i presume is the 3 column weighted average)

UKIP scores as well as Labour on policy with its voters and slightly behind the Tory voter. I conclude the  UKIP policies are as popular with their voters as main party policies are with their supporters.

Its even stevens, 80% each, as voters wanting their party to win. UKIP supporters are  clearly not as keen on a UKIP government. Why?

The answer is clearly that UKIP and Labour voters are not that keen on their leader becoming PM. I opine that is because Milliband is seen as 'weird' and Farage is not popular with women voters who make up over half the UKIP numbers.

Cameron is seen as the most prime ministerial scarcely surprising as he is in office and for all Farage's efforts to appear normal, pub, beer, fags etc its not working 100%. The women don't like him!

That UKIP's candidate does not go down welll with the faithful is not surprising given he has been hawked around a couple of North West constituencies previously.

Suzanne Evans fails the Portaloo test

She was on This Week last night and was caught out by the very clever Portillo and even the less clever Tom Watson. It was no contest between choo-choo Portillo a former cabinet minister and student of Starkey's at Cambridge and an ex-Tory local councillor. Ms Evans appears to be a presentable well spoken woman but she is clearly not clever enough to take on Portillo and no where near precise enough in her use of language.

She kept referring back to Wislon's 'fixed' as she put it  1975 referendum. Her imprecision was seized upon by Portillo and Watson whilst the LibDem lady tittered at LaEvans discomfort. She spoke as if talking to Farage in the pub. That's OK for UKIP meetings and rallies but comes unstuck when dealing with the well informed like Andrew Neil. Her moan about the financial imbalance in 1975 fell on deaf ears. That's politics ducky. You won't change it and if you don't like it you should not have joined.

Her charm also did not work on the others. Her joke about if you went to bed with either Cam or Milliband you would wake up with Juncker was too obvious a prepared line and fell a bit flat. She is just  too much the second division ex-Tory and in my personal opinion lacks the freshness of Diane James, UKIPs other leading lady.

Still it could have been worse. Thank goodness it was not Jill Seymour or Lisa Duffy!

There are now 6 UKIP women MEPs. Clearly UKIP are going for the wimmin's vote. Their big problem in doing that is women see through Farage. His bloke in the pub with a pint and a fag outside just does not appeal to the ladies. The rest of UKIP's leading males are hardly the answer to a maiden's or ex-Tory ladiies  prayer. Time to bow out Mr F. Take a leaf out of Alex Salmond's book and let Mrs James or Ms Evans be leader. UKIP will have a much better chance in 2015 with a female lead after all more than half the voters are women!

Another EU phile factoid half truth

The EU philes always claim to the gullible British public that the EU is the biggest market in the world. That is debatable. The US is pretty well the same size. In nominal terms the EU is slightly larger in PPP (Purchasing Power Parity) the US  is slightly ahead.

2013 GDP figures in million $
Trade Nom. GDP PPP GDP Nom. GDP PPP GDP HDI Population
per capita per capita
 Brazil 494,800 2,245,673 2,423,306 11,208 12,221 0.744 201,032,714
 China 3,801,000 9,240,270 13,395,396 6,807 9,844 0.719 1,339,724,852
EU 4,567,000 17,350,853 16,260,640 34,072 32,152 0.876 501,259,840
 India 809,400 1,876,797 5,069,158 1,499 4,077 0.586 1,210,193,422
UK 1,127,000 2,522,261 2,390,873 39,351 37,307 0.892 62,041,708
USA 3,969,000 16,799,700 16,799,700 53,143 53,101 0.914 316,173,000

Note these are 2013 figures and the figures are for the whole of the EU.  More importat is the GDP per capita which measures how wealthy people are is much higher in the US than the EU 53143 cf 34072 nominal.

NB these figures are for the EU as a whole including the buoyant UK. The Eurozone figures are much worse.

Figures for 2014 will increase the gap between the Eurozone US gap.The latest annual growth figures I can find are US 2.6%, Eurozone 0.3%  so the Eurozone is shrinking compared to the US.

If one looks at the BRICs the gap with the Eurozone is also rapidly widening. Last annual growth rates: China 7.5%, India  4.7%, Brazil 2.5%, Russia 1.3%.

From a British exporters point of view it is far easier to export to the growing BRIC markets than the stagnant Eurozone. More important the Eurozone makes the same things as the UK so UK profit margins  will be squeezed compared to BRIC markets where there is much less domestic competition.

The main thing holding back the UK economy is lack of demand in the Eurozone. Its like a millstone round our neck. Its an increasingly unbalanced trade with the Eurozone exporting to the UK but buying less from the UK. Thats one thing the LibDems keep quite about. Time to shine the spotlight on it for all to see.

UKIP cocks it up

Today UKIP dragged much of her majesty's Press Corps to Bristol for a non announcemen about some business man with more money than political sense agreeing to stump up dosh for UKIP. Farage loves relieving these people of their dosh but the hacks were lead to expect another defection not a non event.

Its just like the episode in the "The Thick of it" where hacks were dragged out of London for a non annoucement.

The hacks will make Farage pay a big political price for wasting their time. Did mummy Farage never tell Nigel the story about the boy who cried wolf? Press expectations aroused but then dashed. Coitus interruptus!

BBC reads and acts on my Tweets

On Monday 29th Sept, apologies for the mis-spellings, I tweeted:

  1. Is it not time someone asked Cameron what is his plan B if his renegotion fais? Salmond was pilloried by the Tories on this.
  2. Glad to see Nick Robinson took up my suggestion tonight on 6pm News

On the 10pm news up popped Nick Robinson again with the same item

Click below and skip 13mins 21 secs in to see the piece

It was Paxman v Howard all over again! Cameron was being evasive five times over and it showed.

Do I mind not being credited? Not really I just hope I get a lot more followers for my tweets. Iam @NortonSubHamdon. The link to this blog goes automatically out as one of my tweets.

I hope its Farage who gets this treatment from Robinson next time on what the URL link is to details of his expenses he claims are avalable on the web. I have never heard of anyone who could find them. My conclusion? They don't exist. Another chance for Mr Robinson to make Farage squirm.
