UKIP, a party for dim witted opportunists

This is how Alan Sked,UKIP's founder describes the party in a letter to the Telegraph headlined , "Enoch Powell backed the founder of Ukip, but not Nigel Farage". How true. UKIP was founded as a party of principle and is now dominated by the worst type of unprincipled ex-Tories eager to get on the EU gravy train.

I had not realised that in its original membership form it stated that UKIP would not send MEPs to Brussels. The lure of EU money was of course irrestible to Nigel Farage. This has emerged in Sked's letter concerning Enoch Powel's qualified support for UKIP's aims.

"Enoch Powell's support was over Europe. He backed my stance thal we should send no MEP.s to Brussels and accept no income from the European Parliament. As soon as I quit the party , and after Enoch's death, Mr Farage was happpy to become an MEP and take rnore than £2 million from the European Parliament in expenses. The clause in Ukip's membership form thal laid down boycotting the European Parliament as a principle was removed. The party is now a home for dim-witted opportunists.

Were he alive today, Enoch Powell would treat Nigel Farage and Ukip with contempt.

Professor Alan Sked"

I raised this issue at my first NEC meeting. I was shouted down by the EU money obsessed Farage cabal. I knew then UKIP was a morally lost cause. It is now ten times worse. As Sked says a party of of the dim and greedy and now mainly third rate ex-Tories.

UKIP is on the way down

I have not long returned from my winter cruise ship break. I was largely out of touch for the period 2nd to 16th December but the political news that did come through about UKIP was very negative. Farage upsets breast feeding mothers. Farage blames immigrants for being held up on the M4 going to a meeting. UKIP official accused by female candidate of trying to bed her. UKIP candidate in race row rant. The scorned Mrs Hamilton tweets,  a “cryptic” message warning of a “spy in the camp” hours before the man who replaced her husband as Ukip’s candidate in a key seat was forced to stand down over a bigoted rant plus "watching people dig their own graves is rather fun…"

Worse, Nigel Farage has been likened to Jesus by Ukip's Commonwealth spokesman, Winston McKenzie. The Eurosceptic "army" was behind their leader, who can "do no wrong".

"Jesus was one man, we're his army. Farage is one man, and we’re his army and that's what it's all about", he says. "Farage is like (non-stick) Teflon – he can do no wrong. Everywhere he goes, it doesn't matter what he says or does - he gets away with it".
This must be having an efffect in the polls. Richard North today did the same:

"we see today a Guardian/ICM poll which puts Ukip on 14 percent, down from the heady heights of 19-20 percent it was getting in October/November.

The latest YouGov poll poll has 16 percent – up from 14 percent over the weekend, but again down from the peaks it was getting earlier."

The latest IPSOS Mori poll after the RN blog confirms this:

The wheels are coming off. UKIP support has lost 6 points since I went on holiday from 20% to around 14 %

I don't care what happens to UKIP. A party whose leaders Farage and Johny come lately Helmer take the EU 30 pieces of silver against the vote of their members deserves a good kicking come May. I want to get my country out of the EU. UKIP will never achieve that with Farage as leader. For the sake of our cause Farage has to be got rid of and the anti EU argument pre May articulated by Carswell & Congdon.
