May I humbly suggest that a number of factors are at work.
MPs get paid. This fact finances a self-serving gang who are able to hi-jack the democratic process
People under the age of 40 are allowed to become MPs. If there were an age limit then prospective MPs would have had to have made their way in the world before entering the Commons.
Through the prism of their inbred arrogance this self-styled elite has a sense of right and wrong whereby everything they do is right and everything everyone else does is wrong. The foul-mouthed rant from the deeply unpleasant David Mellor sums up the general attitude of a very smug bunch of people.
