Gary Kasparov was the former world chess champion, a Russian Jew who now lives in the US. He has just written a brilliant piece for Reuters on Obama, the great black hope, and his failure to realise how the world has changed. For the non-chess players a pin is when a piece is attacked by a rook or a bishop and either cannot move as it would expose the King to check or would lead to the capture of a more valuable piece often the Queen. Obama is pinned on Bush/Blairs disastrous Iraq war and is scared to move.
