I use our hourly local bus service into Yeovil roughly 7 miles away. At my age it is free but for working people, students and mothers with children it costs £6 a head which I think is very expensive for a poor rural area. It inhibits their lifestyle, jobs and educational possibilities and social interaction
In London the most prosperous part of the UK buses are far more frequent and far cheaper. Money is poured into London transport, Crossrail, HS2 etc. The per capita public transport spend in London must be over ten times that of Somerset. If politicians are serious about reducing the North South, urban rural inequalities etc they should prioritise and subsidise rural bus services which are cheap and benefit the whole community. But no! Useless glamour projects are funded to provide our preening politicos with virtue signaling and photo opportunities and unglamorous useful things like bus services that ordinary people use and want are never funded properly.
This is the country we live in.
