EU did not invent European travel for the young

In 1963 when I was 19 I travelled widely in Western Europe with only my passport as ID. It was dark blue and when crossing frontiers especially on cheap night trains when the passport officials who got on the train to check passports whilst the train moved on to its next stop over the border saw it was a British passport they did not even open it, just handed it back to me. Other nationalities passports were invariably carefully checked. It was so easy to travel then, no bomb threats or jihadis.

If you opened the passport on the first page under the Royal coat of Arms was this wonderful FO statement.

Her Brittanic Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for Foreugn Affairs Request and Requires in the Name of Her Majestyall those whom it may concern to allow the bearer to pass freely without let or hindrance and to afford the bearer such assistance and protection as may be necessary.

Wonderful words backed up by British power. I suggest Mr Farage at his next press conference gets out his old blue passport and reads them out to the hacks. to show how things were before we joined the EU.

To the young of our country I say the EU claims credit for good things it had nothing to do with. The should think on the words in the Bible,

The Sun rises and the Sun sets and there is nothing new under the Sun.

Nothing the EU says or does can alter that eternal truth.
