Wisdom of the US founding fathers

Benjamin Franklin the ultimate Polymath, Scientist, Diplomat, Engineer Writer said:

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

A bit like Esau giving up his birthright for a mess of potage   I quote from

Wikepedia:

The Book of Genesis speaks of the relationship between Jacob and Esau, focusing on Esau's loss of his birthright to Jacob and the conflict that had spawned between their descendant nations because of Jacob's deception of their aged and blind father, Isaac, in order to receive Esau'sbirthright/blessing from Isaac.

Hence the phrase pulling the wool over their eyes.

Once more Dodgy Dave and Boy George are gerrymandering the referendum process. How on earth can a 2 hour crash of the Electoral Commission website justify a 48 hour registration extension? No UK institution is now independent from political interference even the Queen. We now live in a bananna republic.

The US founding fathers were well aware of this and seperated the executive, Dodgy Dave, the  legislature the supine HoC/HoL and the courts. In the US a stunt like this would have been declared invalid by the US supreme court. We too have a supreme court except its not supreme and this instance would have been over-ruled by the European court of justice in Strasbourg stuffed wiith dodgy Dave's dodgy European  mates.

There is bound to be an eventual  legal challenge to this duplicitous behaviour by Cameron. Worse, in the court of public opinion Dave will be judged a crook and the demand for a re-run will become overwhelming. People knowwhen they are being cheated.

The last time I saw anything like this was when there was a privatisation vote in the Nationwide Building Society and to ensure a rejection the dead line was extended and staff helped customers to vote the 'right' way to preserve the status quo.

More Benjamin Franklin to end with

Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.
By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.
